She has been the recipient of a number of grants from such foundations as: The Peninsula Community Foundation (several times), Silicon Valley Arts Council, The American Composer's Forum, The Contemporary Record Society and the Mu Phi Epsilon Memorial Foundation. She has won or been a runner up in a number of national composition competitions. These include: First Prize Winner: Britten on-the-Bay-1996, Winner of the Bay Area Composers Forum (orchestral music)-1994, First Prize Mu Phi Epsilon Original Composition Competition-1985, runner-up in Delius Competition and Erich Katz American Recorder Society Competitions. Her orchestral works and other works have been selected for performances in national score calls by The New England Philharmonic, The James Madison University Symphony, The Sandusky Music Festival, Diana Barnhart, soprano and others.
Ms. Bloomer Deussen is the founder of the San Francsico Bay area chapter of The National Association of Composers USA (NACUSA) and currently (1999) serves as their president. She is on the selection committee for the chamber music concerts of the 1999 Derriere Guard Festival which will take place in San Francisco in November, 1999. In addition to her work as a composer and as the local NACUSA president, she is an associate faculty member of the music department at Mission College in Santa Clara, CA, where she directs the chorus and teaches piano and music history.
